EMTA Suur Saal simulation

The simulation of video projection inside the Concert and Theatre House (aka Suur Saal) of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. This gives the students studying TouchDesigner the ability to see how their final work might look in the actual venue.

Technical description

The plan was to use the 3D scan of the venue to make simulation as close to the real one as possible.

There are various paid tools for video projection simulation (i.e. Capture 3D Visualizer, Depence 3d Visualizer) but they're usually very pricy and take time to learn. Luckily, TouchDesigner can deal with this task as well. The simple trick is to use video files as an input texture for the lights, move these lights to the positions where the real projectors will be placed, and adjust the lights beam angle similar to projectors lens angle. This will produce a "light projection" very close to the real projectors.
